JEFFERSON COUNTY DEPARTMENTS RECOGNIZED FOR ANTI-LITTER EFFORTS
11/24/2015  Three Jefferson County Departments are recognized for being selected to receive awards from Alabama People Against a Littered State (AL PALS).

JEFFERSON COUNTY DEPARTMENTS RECOGNIZED FOR ANTI-LITTER EFFORTS

Birmingham, AL - During its work session on November 17, 2015, The Jefferson County Commission recognized the Jefferson County Department of Roads and Transportation, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jefferson County Storm Water Management Department for being selected to receive awards from Alabama People Against a Littered State (AL PALS) during its Annual State Governor’s Awards ceremony that took place on November 11, 2015.

The Department of Roads and Transportation received an award in the County category for its assistance in removing and properly disposing of 65 tons of litter and trash collected during 35 cleanups by volunteers from along roadways in Unincorporated Jefferson County during fiscal year 2014 – 2015.

The Sheriff’s Office received the AL PALS award for its support and assistance in protecting more than 1000 volunteers and providing traffic control during 35 roadside litter cleanups that were held within Unincorporated Jefferson County during fiscal year 2014 - 2015.

The Jefferson County Storm Water Management Department was selected to receive the AL PALS’ highest honor, the  Don Hines Memorial Award, for its efforts to engage communities and provide coordination and support to make the 51 volunteer roadside litter cleanups held in Jefferson County during fiscal year 2014 – 2015 a success.
